”Panamanian accordion master Ceferino Nieto (b. 1937) is undoubtedly one of the more unsung heroes of Cumbia and Latin and Caribbean music in general. Dubbed among other names as the “El Mago De Las Teclas” (the wizard of the keys), his older discography with the band Conjunto Nueva Bella Luna and his sister Esthercito is totally unknown in the West and online presence is minimal. DJ IJJ with Música Macondo change that with this mix.
Compiled from rare 7” singles, private press singles and one LP this is a unique mixture of sounds drawing influences from Panama, Cuba and Colombia smashed together with deep roots of Afro-Caribbean rhythms and finally topped with the melancholic and psychedelic accordion of Nieto.
