Musica Macondo on Jazz FM with Tim Garcia Feat. Malik Al Nasir in conversation

This week features an interview special. Tim was joined by protégé to Gil Scott-Heron and The Last Poets Malik Al Nasir. They spoke about Malik’s story growing up in the 70’s UK care system and the trauma he faced to being picked up by Gil and taken on tour when he was an 18 year-old homeless man in Liverpool.

They then go on to speak about how being mentored by Gil up until the day he died changed his life and that it enabled him to gain a degree, two master degrees and publish his own books.

His upcoming tour of ‘The Revolution will be live’ a project he’s put together furthering the legacy of Gil’s work alongside Gil’s musical director of 35 years Kim Jordan. He will also be performing at this year’s Cambridge Jazz Festival with his band Malik & The OG’s along with a series of workshops and a lecture at Cambridge University.
