Macondo Mix: Fradinho

Eclectic broken beat DJ Fradinho (Rui Fradinho) comes through with a very special guest mix.

The Lisbon-born digger who’s been living in London since 2008 grew up surrounded by music since, learning keyboards from the age of 7 and collecting vinyl from the age of 13. By 16 Fradinho became a resident DJ at Sociedade Anonima club in Portugal, regularly attended by 2000 people every weekend. After a 6-year residency, he moved into playing keys and drums in a variety of original and cover bands whilst continuing to DJ in the more exclusive and eclectic Lisbon bars, while he started producing his own original and remixed tracks from 2005.

Rui’s musical base stems from a diverse range of music: rock to pop, house to techno, through jazz, soul, funk, global sounds, hip hop, drum and bass and ofcourse from breakbeat to his main passion and current music production focus, broken beat/nu jazz. Highlights of his DJ career so far (other than his 6-year residency at Sociedade Anonima), are the Bicaense Cafe and Lux club in Lisbon. Earlier in 2017, he did a stint on London’s Back2BackFM, playing at Dalston’s Club Makossa and currently guests at Birmingham’s BrukUp broken beat night.

Fradinho has now launched his own Facebook Live weekly 2-hour vinyl broken beat video radio show every Sunday at 6pm GMT/BST , show reposted on BlueInGreenRadio.com every Monday at 7pm and he is also producing new originals and remixes for a forthcoming record label of his own – Eclectic beats Music.

“For Musica Macondo, I’ve created a one hour broken beat vinyl only mix using the same philosophy as for my Eclectic Beats weekly radio show – A musical ‘around the Broken Beat world’ journey travelling sequentially across 7 different flavours / sub genres: Jazz, Soul, Funk, Latin, Afro, Brasilian and World Music. A selection of new classics and old personal favourite records that I’ve been coming across since the early 2000’s and immediately fell in love with. Selected and manually beat matched vinyl records with love, for your pleasure. Enjoy the journey and thank you to Tim and Musica Macondo for having me!”
