Mangroves is a 4 track EP that was conceived at ADA Studios by the Pyramid Project, Lasta and UK producer Contours over the course of 2 days in 2018. Each track was recorded with a truly improvised and collaborative approach; as a result the vibe is electric, providing a live feel.
We’re excited to premiere Mangroves featuring Mutoriah, a fierce yet atmospheric, Swahili Jazz Composition. The record opens with an air of mystery; the percussive instruments are awakened by a toying bassline soon building into a driving riff with skipping drums.
Contours is on Percussion with the Space Echo, Katumba is on the drums providing the Afro-Rhythms and Abaki Simba’s Masta and Inspekta on Percussion. The track ebbs and flows allowing young pianist Mutoriah, to take the lead. Mangroves is a deep Swahili meditation, coaxed by keys and rhythm section,leading to a rhythmic crescendo that ebbs into an echo of nostalgia.
