Following up from his debut single ‘The Sword Will Die’ on the label, Mo Wax affiliate Simon Richmond a.k.a Palm Skin Productions has dug into his own archives; a deep pool of recorded samples and long-forgotten sessions, to repurpose and build upon ideas to create instantaneous beats.
Straying away from his usual approach of conceptual ideas and hidden meanings, this album is about the ‘Other Times’, toasting the moment of ideas coming together.
“When I make an album I’m usually all about the concept. I’m kind of known for creating dense, involved layers of stuff all of which usually has a load of hidden meaning for me, which I work to weave all together around a central concept. But then, once in a while, there are other times where I just want to make some ideas happen and to celebrate that instant of it coming together. This is what this album is all about – those “Other Times”. If anything, I’d say then that this is the opposite of a concept album! Which is a new concept for me…”
All the track names on this release are inspired by Simon’s daily obsession with sea-swimming, this track ‘Mermaids Purse’ referencing the egg sacks of Sharks often found on the coasts of the UK.
